Trainers were advised late this week that for Sunday’s racemeeting, the NHRA will be enforcing Rule 55.3.
Following discussions with the NHRA, this rule will now apply to all meetings where a scheduled race day is in place.
As a result of this implementation, several jockeys will be unavailable to ride on Sunday.
It is important to note that, given the circumstances, there were only two options regarding the rescheduling of this meeting — to postpone to Sunday (as has been done) or to abandon the meeting entirely.
To help fill the gap left by the unavailable jockeys, there are a number of jockeys based in other provinces who can be brought in. While this is not ideal, it is a necessary step to ensure the meeting can proceed.
That said, if there are significant scratchings due to the unavailability of jockeys, the meeting may still be abandoned.
