Drakenstein Stud celebrated a Monday Gr3 feature double with their Gauteng raiders at Hollywoodbets Greyville when the De Kock-trained Gold Standard daughter Oxalis Gold maintained her improvement with a convincing win in the R300 000 Byerley Turk.

After the Sean Tarry-trained Green Sapphire won the fairer sex feature, it was the turn of the Mike and Mat de Kock father-and-son team to produce something of a surprise in the mixed sex company.
Left to take her chances in the male equivalent after drawing poorly in the Gr3 Umzimkhulu Stakes a half hour earlier, Oxalis Gold (8-1) broke the run of fancied runners and built on her very good win on the Highveld last time out.
She was produced late in running by Kabelo Matsunyane off a solid pace to beat the favourite Cats Pajamas (18-10), who arrived too late, by 2 lengths in a time of 84,93 secs. The Plattner runner Otenikwa (2-1) swooped late up the inside but was beaten a further 0,20 lengths in third.
A winner of 4 races with 2 places from 10 starts for stakes of R420 900, the Drakenstein-bred daughter of the now Vogel Vlei Stud-based Trippi stallion Gold Standard is bred on staying lines, being out of Galileo’s three-time winning daughter, Serruria.
Oxalis Gold looks like she could be one for the black book when racing over slightly further – more so, against her own sex.
