One of only two members of the fairer sex in the field, Kelly Mitchley’s Passchedaele went from gun to tape to win the R175 000 non black-type November Stakes at Fairview on Friday.

Ridden with purpose by Sandile Khathi, who booted home two of the three Kelly Mitchley winners on the afternoon, Passchendaele took on some big-hitters but never looked like getting beaten and went on powerfully to hold off the dual Gr2 Charity Mile winner Bingwa (8-1) by 2,25 lengths in a time of 82,02 secs for the 1400m.
Dowser (40-1) stayed on for third to shade the disappointing 5-10 favourite La Luna who rounded off the quartet.
The decision to move Passchendaele to the Eastern Cape has been a rewarding one, as she took her tally to 4 wins from her 9 starts since relocating.
Bred by Maine Chance & Coolmore, the winner is a 4yo daughter of Querari (Oasis Dream) out of the five-time winning Captain Al mare Pine Princess – the latter is probably best remembered as the filly who dethroned the recently deceased Siren’s Call in the 2015 SA Triple Tiara final leg.
Raced by Maine Chance Farms, the winner, a R400 000 Ready To Run graduate, has taken her win tally to 5 from 18 starts with 5 places included.
She has earned R479 600 and should pay to follow – especially as her connections’ look to register some black type before she heads off to stud next season.
