Calvin Habib Likely To Return To Action On Sunday

Lucky to have escaped serious injury

After a nasty fall en route to the start of the final race at Turffontein on Thursday, Calvin Habib is expected to be discharged from hospital today and is likely to take up his engagements at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday.

Calvin, who has ridden 5 winners this season after taking off a week early in August, was dislodged from the fancied Tony Peter runner Doitwithdiamonds on the way to the start of the eighth on Thursday.

He was attended to on course by the paramedics and transported to the medical centre for further assessment, whereafter he was despatched to hospital with an injured left eye and for x-rays of his neck, as a precautionary measure.

He was replaced by apprentice Malesela Katjedi, who ended up running fifth on the Silvano filly.

“Calvin is fine and he is his happy and cheerful self. He’s not been discharged yet. We’re still waiting to see his doctor today,” Shandre Habib told the Sporting Post on Friday morning

The majority of trauma was apparently to Calvin’s face so a CT scan was done of his head and neck.

“Everything came back clear, no fractures. Just some swelling and bruising but he should be back home today. He definitely won’t be off for an extended time. He’s been stood down off his Fairview rides today because the 48 hour rule applied and on Saturday he wasn’t carded to ride,” added the clearly relieved wife.

Calvin has a full card of rides at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday.

The Enchanting Currency Of Fate

It is eerie to think that there would have been no Siren’s Call, Sound Of Warning, or for that matter Call To Unite, had fate not decreed that Enchanted Cove follow her dam to South Africa, and that Peter de Beyer had the foresight to return Elusive Fort back home from the States as well!
