Jaap Visser’s Comeback Today

Feature is off at 16h00

On a day of many happy returns at Fairview, former Northern Cape Champion Jaap Visser joins his old sand bowl colleague Cliffie Miller and saddles his first runner back after a five year absence.

The Track Manager at Flamingo Park for five years, Jaap saddles the talented Captain Of All gelding Sullenberger in the WSB Poly Challenge 1200, the opening leg of the local all-weather ‘triple crown’.

Jaap, his Racing Manager son JC and a staffmember watch the work

The Upington-born former Griquas and Blue Bulls Fly-half and Fullback spent 18 years with the CID, before becoming a trainer 40 years ago.

Jaap was Northern Cape Champion in the 2012/13 season.

He saddles the recent Fairview Merchants winner Sullenberger today and the former Alan Greeff-trained five-time winner must have a reasonable chance, even though he is held by Viking Moon pn past form and has to negotiate a 9 draw. The 4yo has won on both surfaces.

Watch Sullenberger win the Merchants at his last start:

“We are expecting a good effort from Sullenberger. He has been with us for about a month and Keanan Steyn has been riding all the work on him. We are very happy with what he has produced at home, but realise that it’s a quality field. He is versatile and can run from on or off the pace. So that gives the jockey options. We’d love to make it a winning start!”

The seventh race is off at 16h00.
