Twenty four hours prior to registering his first Gr1 success at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Saturday, Varsfontein Stud’s Jet Master sire Master Of My Fate produced the winner of the Listed World Sports Betting East Cape Derby at Fairview on Friday.
Becoming the first hometown-trained winner since the globetrotting male Lizard’s Desire in 2009, the Alan Greeff-trained American Princess beat the boys as she gave Shadlee Fortune a double on the day to win the 2400m feature.
Bred and owned by Varsfontein, American Princess recorded a smooth victory, hitting the front 200m from home, and powering home to record a one and a quarter length win in a time of 150,25 secs.
Rock Aloe was in second, with another seven lengths back to the third home Miss La Dee Da.
American Princess has won three races with three places from 9 starts for stakes of in excess of R170 000. A mark of her versatility is that she won first time out over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Greyville.
The winner is out of the Badger Land mare, Princess Tobin.
