Plattner Stayer Powers Home

Great win by the big bay

Gallant Sabine Plattner stayer Crome Yellow followed up on his exciting last gasp recent Woolavington Handicap victory when he came from the clouds to win the R150 000 WSB Leading In Ante-Post Betting Gr3 Cape Summer Stayers Handicap under Grant van Niekerk at Kenilworth on Saturday.

Showing an appreciation for the long run-in of the summer course, the super-fit reportedly 560kg bull, Crome Yellow (11-2) outstayed his opposition to show that he has recovered from a tendon injury sustained early in his career.

He beat the handily weighted Retro Effect (9-1) by three quarters of a length, in a time of 156,04 secs.

Dean Kannemeyer’s Azores (6-1) is clearly improving over ground and he was thereabouts for a long way, staying on for third, a head back.

Running leagues under sufferance, Peter Wrensch’s Troop The Colour (55-1) ran an absolute cracker, as he gunned into fourth, just 0,30 lengths adrift.

The winner is raced and bred by Sabine Plattner.

A 6yo son of champion sire Trippi (End Sweep), he is out of the four-time winning Jallad mare Senorita Sol – who raced under the same flag.

A winner of 8 races with 14 places from 27 starts, Crome Yellow has banked R688 450.

The favourite Bayberry finished tailed off after Richard Fourie felt something amiss and didn’t persevere with his ride. The gelding showed signs of post-race distress.

He wasn’t the only one – long time leader Meliora exhibited post-race distress, Dharma was not striding out in front and Man About Town made an abnormal noise post-race. Tap O’Noth was blowing post-race.
