WSB Summer Cup Jockeys – All Bar Two

Piere Strydom and Gavin Lerena are the top dogs

Only the St John Gray duo of Christopher Robin and his fairer sex stablemate Dance Class remained without jockeys when the Turfontein WSB Summer Cup programme was finalised today.

Sean Tarry, who bids for hs fourth win on the trot in the big race, has five runners in the final line-up, headed by Gavin Lerena’s mount, the joint highest rated Tierra Del Fuego.

Lerena and Piere Strydom, who partners Paul Peter’s Astrix, are the winningmost Summer Cup jockeys in the 2020 renewal, with three winners each this century.

Whether it was through weight constraints or personal choice, Lyle Hewitson partners the 4yo Cornish Pomodoro.

Raymond Danielson, who won on Liege in 2017 and rides Divine Odyssey, and S’manga Khumalo, who partnered Wagner in 2012 and jumps aboard the fancied Pack Leader next Saturday, are the only other riders with a past victory in the race.

The only other active riders to enjoy a winner this century, but without a ride at this stage are Denis Schwarz and Anton Marcus, who is currently serving a short suspension.

A R20 million Pick 6 is forecast on the day.
