WPRRA Welcomes Fresh New Team

Sweeping Changes to RA Cape Chapter Board

Racing AssociationThe retirement of long-serving Western Province Regional Racing Association (WPRRA) board members Vidrik Thurling (Chairman), Robert Bloomberg, Vaughan Marshall and Nancy Mitchell constituted a wholesale change and an opportunity to re-build the Cape RA Board in its entirety.

The challenge has been met with energy and enthusiasm and the WPRRA is proud to announce a brand new – and decidedly youthful – complement of Board members in Justin Vermaak, Craig Kieswetter, Philip Taberer and Jonathan Snaith.

Meet the Team

Justin Vermaak (photo: supplied)Justin Vermaak has become a familiar face both locally and nationally, previously as racing manager to Maine Chance Farms, agent to SA Champion Jockey S’manga Khumalo and founder of Green Street Bloodstock and rejoins the team after having previously served on the WPRRA board from February 2016.

Craig Kiewswetter (photo: supplied)Ridgemont Stud’s Craig Kieswetter is part of the winning team behind 2017 Sun Met winner and international campaigner, Whisky Baron, as well as Highlands Farms Stud and the Highlands Cape Winter Series.

Philip Taberer (photo: supplied)Philip Taberer is part of the team behind the well-loved Avontuur Stud and wine estate, former long-standing sponsors of the Cape Fillies Guineas day.

Jonathan SnaithLast, but not least, Jono Snaith needs little introduction as part of the team behind our current National Trainer Championship holders Snaith Racing, in addition to earning his stripes as part of the team behind the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate. As Chairman, Jono will also act as the Cape’s representative on the RA’s National Board.

We thank the outgoing board for all their hard work and service and take the opportunity to welcome the new team and wish them every success.
