Bowie’s Moment Of Fame

Twice Over gelding stamps his authority in style

The Hollywood Syndicate followed up their magical milestone of 250 winners at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Friday evening with the Sean Tarry-trained Bowie running out a convincing winner of the R125 000 World Sports Betting Heritage Consolation at the Vaal on Saturday.

Professionally handled by high-riding recent Gauteng Summer Cup winning jockey Calvin Habib, Bowie was a first feature winner with the Tarry Racing outfit for the Hollywood Syndicate since they acquired 33 horses formerly owned by leading patron Chris van Niekerk in October.

The good looking chestnut son of Twice Over (Observatory) was always going well in the vanguard of the inside group, and moved up under a tight rein at the 350m.

Despite a spirited challenge from the 7-2 favourite Spanish Boy down his inside, Bowie stayed on all the way to the line to maintain 1,20 lengths between himself and the runner-up in a time of 86,82 secs.

While not threatening the top two, Clint Binda’s 7yo soldier Whorly Whorly (16-1) gallantly lumped his 65,5kg topweight in the testing underfoot conditions into third position, a half length in front of Captain Hindsight (8-1).

Bred by Narrow Creek Stud, Bowie is out of the twice winning National Assembly mare, Super Model.

Bowie originally sold to Rainbow Beach Trading for R220 000 at the BSA Cape Yearling Sale and was then offered at the 2019 CTS Cape Ready To Run Sale, where he was bought back for R40 000.

He has been a consistent earner and has won 3 races with 14 places from 22 starts, in the process earning stakes of R340 725.
