Workrider’s Forgettable Race

Some times things don't work out...

Workrider Philisile Mongqawa is talented and  has ridden ten winners. But he will want to forget his ride on Castle Gate in the Turffontein first on Saturday.

The well-bred Trippi filly is no star, having run unplaced in her ten starts to date.

But Mongqawa, who has placed four times in his 16 rides this season without a win, comes out of the race with the rare distinction of having picked up three sanctions in the space of 75 secs.

The Stipes reported:

At approximately the 300m Kellan’s Comet (+G Dadamasi) became cramped and had to steady off the heels of Castle Gate (+P Mongqawa), which shifted in away from the crop from the 350m.

Workrider P Mongqawa signed an Admission of Guilt for a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that he, as the rider of Castle Gate, failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to Kellan’s Comet at the 300m.  He was suspended from riding in one (1) work riders’ race (date of suspension: 15 August 2019).

Workrider P Mongqawa signed an Admission of Guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he hit the horse Castle Gate more than 12 times in the entire race.  He was suspended from riding in one (1) work riders’ race (date of suspension: 8 August 2019).

Workrider P Mongqawa signed an Admission of Guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline C on the use of the crop) in that he struck the horse Castle Gate more than 3 times on consecutive strides.  He was suspended from riding in one (1) work riders’ race (date of suspension: 22 August 2019).

Workrider P Mongqawa was advised that should he transgress Rule 58.10.2 in future, more stringent penalties will be imposed on him.
