Wood Burns Bright On Guineas Day

Stamping his authority over the years

Not for the first time, the late Fort Wood made a big impression at Turffontein on Saturday.

Fort Wood

Fort Wood (Sadler’s Wells – Fall Aspen)

The former champion South African sire is broodmare sire of both the Gr2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas winner Lady Of Power (Master Of My Fate) and Gr2 World Sports Betting Gauteng Guineas victor Eye Of The Prophet (Gimmethegreenlight).

Fort Wood is also broodmare sire of William Longsword, sire of Saturday’s smart debut winner Back In Business, while his grandson Act Of War is the sire of Gr3 World Sports Betting Tommy Hotspur Stakes winner Rollwiththepunches.

Former Cape Guineas winner Act Of War is a son of Fort Wood’s outstanding son Dynasty, who is having an outstanding posthumous season in 2022-2023.

Dynasty is sire of this season’s Gr1 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas/Gr1 Cartier Paddock Stakes winner Make It Snappy, and the former Horse Of The Year is also broodmare sire of five stakes winners this season headed by brilliant Gr1 Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas winner Charles Dickens (Trippi).

Fillies Guineas winner Lady Of Power, a first Gauteng Fillies Guineas winner for her sire Master Of My Fate, is bred on the same Master Of My Fate/Fort Wood cross as Gr3 WSB Best Odds, First Caradoc Gold Cup winner African Adventure and Derby Trial winner Gift For The Gap.

Fort Wood also sired Master Of My Fate’s Spook Express Handicap winning half-sister Justthewayyouare, dam of 2021 South African Triple Crown winner Malmoos (Captain Al).

Eye Of The Prophet, who joins National Park as a Gauteng Guineas winner for the red-hot Gimmethegreenlight, is bred on a cross which has already had plenty of success. Graded stakes winners bred on the Gimmethegreenlight/Fort Wood cross also include Second Base, Gee For Go, Hack Green, and Light Speed.

Speedy Gr3 Magnolia Handicap winner Green Pepper, dam of Gr1 Allan Robertson Championship winner Sweet Pepper (Trippi), is yet another graded stakes winner bred on the Gimmethegreenlight/Fort Wood cross, while Fort Wood also appears in the pedigrees of the Gimmethegreenlight sired Gr1 winners She’s A Keeper (Brentford FC Garden Province Stakes) and Gimme A Prince (Pongrac Cape Flying Championship).

Continuing the success, Dynasty is broodmare sire of Gimmethegreenlight’s Gr2 Western Cape Fillies Championship winner Ciao Bella.
