Wizard Can Weave Some Magic

Randwick first is off at 05h20

Well-credentialled juvenile Wizard of Oz (Exceed and Excel-Dream In Colour, by Frankel) is poised to make his debut on Wednesday at Randwick.

However the Chris Waller-trained 2YO colt also holds an entry for Friday’s Canterbury meeting as an alternative.

Sold for A$1.1 million at the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale where he was consigned by John Muir’s Milburn Creek, Wizard of Oz trialled 10 days ago at Randwick, giving away little to finish at the rear of a field led home by Kalashnikov.

The market has ignored the trial, pricing him a $3.80 second favourite for the opening event just behind Godolphin’s Trifaccia, a 2YO I Am Invincible filly debutante who is out of stakes-winner Mascareri.

Wizard of Oz hails from the family of Forensics.

His UK-bred Frankel dam is a half-sister to Australian Group 3-placed Chamarel (Exceed and Excel) and dual stakes-placed European mare Dathana (Dubawi).

Grandam Colour is a half-sister to Munhro, dam of Group 1-placed Group 2 winner Derryn (Hinchinbrook).

The race will be broadcast on Tellytrack at 05h20.
