Kyle Johnston – A Great Guy Gone Too Young

Shocking news. I met Kyle at the Kingsmead Tattersalls where he assisted his father. A simple, humble human being with a bubbly outlook to life. My condolences to his family and friends on this sad passing away of such a young gentleman.

Snaith’s Dark Winter May Be Today’s Good Start

I do not see the Cape having much racing in the coming months. I pity some jocks that don't make much even on good racing days. They have to start standing up to so-called seniors who call off racing due to drizzle. That goes for eastern cape as well. Same

Only Two Hong Kong Fixtures Left!

Hi George
Yes, only in the sense that as a (Natal) Champ Jockey, maybe I was expecting too much in his first season
The figures and sums you mention is scary, wow, I assume those are stakes.
I guess he will be invited back, and season 2 will be better, even just for the money.
Are you sure about your figures, if so what does the top guys earn then.

Mr Ed on the subject of Jocks, the previous 3 champs left, can you check Richard plans for next season after he takes 2 weeks for fishing

Not stirring, you did promise to run story on Manne not getting his licence

Albert Falls Greetings

Kyle Johnston – A Great Guy Gone Too Young

I met Kyle when he was in std 2 at DPHS, a primary school where young gentlemen are nurtured. Kyle was one of those, who always would greet you by lifting his cap . His late dad , Puppy and I shared premises at Kingsmead Tattersalls and Kyle would come and sit in my office after school and ask me what I knew. He became my young “ apprentice “ and for better or worse I started teaching him the “tricks of the trade”.By the time he completed the course he passed with a distinction in understanding the psyche of a gambler, which made him such a popular team member at Hollywood. He grew up to be one of the nicest young men I have ever met and my late wife always used to say to me after being in Kyle’s company “ if we had a daughter Kyle would be the type of boy I would like her to be with”I was absolutely shattered to hear the tragic news and my heart goes out to Robin and the family, God Bless my young friend , may your dear soul rest in

A Helluva Story Behind Once ‘Awkward’ July Winner

The filly Basil Marcus bought for R140k has a very interesting pedigree.
She was sired by the 2014 July winner in Legislate and is out of the dam of 2024 July winner, who in turn was also sired by the 2004 July winner (Grey's Inn). Her paternal grandsire, Dynasty (2003), was a July winner too.
Given her sire, both her grandsires and her half brother won the race every SA owner dreams of, she should make for a decent broodmare one

Kyle Johnston – A Great Guy Gone Too Young

It’s never a good time to leave this world unless it’s on your terms at a ripe old age, but even then. It is not for us to question or to ask why. The Lord has his reasoning and that’s that. May Kyle’s dear soul rest in peace and my all close to him be blessed with courage, strength and understanding

Only Two Hong Kong Fixtures Left!

Cecil you agree that de Melo is struggling in Hong Kong.
Has 3 rides a meeting.
It's time for him to come back and go for the championship
Let's check.
86 meetings to date
De Melo has 3 rides a meeting max
That should be about 240/250 rides for 86 meetings
Official Stats state 400 plus rides.
About 5 rides a meeting.
De Melo has earned about R 78 000 000 to date riding in Hong Kong
The man from the Cape wants de Melo to return to SA to fly round the country 7 days a week for a year to pocket R 1 mil bonus plus
78 000 000 trumps 1 000 000 plus lunch
It is hard in Hong Kong and de Melo has only been there one season
Hong Kong tells you if you not good enough to play in their play

The Enchanting Currency Of Fate

It is eerie to think that there would have been no Siren’s Call, Sound Of Warning, or for that matter Call To Unite, had fate not decreed that Enchanted Cove follow her dam to South Africa, and that Peter de Beyer had the foresight to return Elusive Fort back home from the States as well!
