For the record , recently , GVN rode a horse of mine and did the complete opposite as to his riding instructions ( and finished stone last in so doing ).
If I had my way he would have been reported !!
Is it time to get tough

Frankie Zackey... Punters who were depending on him to win or place or even for that matter to run 4th for Quartets purposes,,their hopes were done and dusted a very very very long way out...More importantly is the well-being of the poor animal,,Grant still had the nerve to give it a reminder or 2 down the shoulder,,when most of the field had already glided past

Poor form? Last run 2L behind future Pearl on his prep run for the gold cup. The 3200 Turfontein was tested for TCO2 countless times and his dash was done in the testing. Summer cup prior to that, 3 wide the whole race and made a run but faded late on in jhb’s bigger race. Before that 1800m which is far to short. Before that, win after win after win. You really don’t know what you taking about . Guess you want to Credit him on being a genius in the saddle? He did the same thing with Hluhluwe in the daily news- where did he finish off? Any answers for us

Justified? This wasn’t a maiden handicap, it’s the champion stayers race. Looping the entire field making up 15L +-. With top weight?? What chance does he have after that? Go watch every single one of his wins- where does he come from? The back of the field. It was so justified that his chances were gone coming into the straight, what do you

Plattner Power Grab Gold

Grant van niekerk's
ride on Zeus was pathetic.

For Zeus' entire career, he came from far back to make his run strongly, and always pulled through for the majority of his career.

What was Grant van niekerk thinking in the Gold cup with Zeus 60kg And on a 3200.

The manner in which he rode the horse, gave Zeus no chance.

He was 16 to 18 lengths behind and in a matter of seconds, he was 8 to 10 lengths clear of the second horse.

By the top of the straight Zeus was flat. Finished 22 lengths behind
That ride was

It is truly mind-boggling how fickle and capricious South African punters can be when it suits them or when they are driving an agenda! And the agenda this time is clearly disparage Grant Van Niekerk!

I am in no way defending what Grant Van Niekerk did on his ride on Zeus. The horse is clearly no front-runner and/or pace-setter, so I'm not sure what his instructions were from the trainer, I'm not sure if he had even sat on the horse before as it's a Joburg horse and he is Cape -based. However, from his poor draw of 14 he moved around the field and tried to run his race from the front. Rightly or wrongly it did not work, yet had he won the race he would have been hailed a hero and commended for his enterprising ride. Unfortunately it did not work, but why is he being castigated from all and sundry? Many jockeys do similar tricks trying to change tactics and catch the opposition flat-footed, but Grant is now being vilified and ridiculed?! Every week we read here about the "pace" of long-distance races in SA, no pacemakers, slow times, Cape Crawl, etc, etc! But now when a jockey tries different tactics he is lambasted!

When a jockey tries to force the pace he is vilified, and when no-one sets the pace we moan, so what do we really want in South Africa??!! Disclaimer: I am not saying I agree with Grant's tactics, only that there is no need to attack the guy and call for him to be fined, banned, penalized for an error of judgement! And Zeus was 33/1 with poor... read more

I agree 100%. A horse that every start has come from way behind. GVN had no right to do what he did with the horse, guaranteed that he did not follow instructions. He should refund the owners all the money it cost to have a horse run in the gold cup, and given a disgraceful ride such as that. Shocking. If nothing is done about this ride we are the circus that the world deems us to

Gold Cup Winning Jockey’s Mixed Emotions

Afternoon. The debate of debates misuse of the crop? I'm taking a neutral stand on this issue. But do jockeys really have the time on that minute split seconds still to have the time to count how many times he used the crop plus you involved in that hype and thrill of the finish of winning . Knowing that you will get up to win. So my question now remains he used 2 extra use of the crop to win right and he got punished . If he had not used the two extra use and finished 2nd or 3 rd would he have been punished for not ensuring his mount could have won. I am not in favor of the jockey don't get me wrong I am merely asking. I mean I see so many times jockeys when they can't win they stop riding not even finishing in the places. Some of us play place
