Betway Summer Cup Day – Peter Family Issue Statement

They aren't saying much here.

As the matter is not before the courts and only an internal industry enquiry why have they not said more than just the above? We as punters and the public would like more information (from either party) to better understand what is going on? Also what is a reasonable time to proceed with the R70million lawsuit, surely if the NHA is playing them, then they are within their rights to take the NHA to court? Going nowhere

Betway Summer Cup Stake Goes To R6 Million

Muniraj has a LEGITIMATE complaint... however... there are many...
The MAIN ONEs (in mine eyes) are..
1) the influx of FREE fèting of so-called "CELEBS" who are scratched outta the woodwork to make things "glamorous".!!!

2) the import of race callers, presenters, tipsters et al....from other centres whilst the locals have to share the LIMELIGHT.!!!

3) the over-abundance of the 3 X's a YEAR punters.. (Met, Dbn July and Summer) who hog the prominent positions, camera-spots etc etc & etc.

4) the so-called TIPSTERS who give EXOTICS false pushes by picking fields (amounting to R-1,000"s) that only YOU & I dream of... and they...???...not proving they laid bets of their own..

5) the wastage of RUNWAY & CLOWNISH outfits which have nothing to do with racing...
(barring the L'Ormarins....(sic).

This is supposed to be HORSE RACING...(fit for KINGS)... not sò.???

Betway Summer Cup Stake Goes To R6 Million

the prize money for the summer cup is all well-deserved for the owners and grooms but i have just one complaint.
As a betway customer as well as one that supports the tote, my wife and i are always at Turffontein for your run of the mill Saturday racing. We use this outing as our getaway and relaxation for the weekend. Normally we have between us plus minus 800 rand to spend on the day - win or lose.
why then must we pay 200 rand combined just to get onto the race course on that particular day. Surely 4U Racing should at least give the regular racegoers that go to the racecourse every week to support the game, some kind of complimentary tickets.
your attention to this request will be greatly

Gold Cup Lightweight Could Make Them Run

A hale "n hearty greeting to all "SPORTING POST"ers.
Soon we shall see and feel the end of another HORSE-RACING phenomenon....
the SINGAPORE HORSE RACING CLUB. (joining our very own.. Benoni (FAR East Rand), Newmarket (Alberton), Germiston, PE"s Arlington, Clairwood, Kimberley and Bloemfontein).

We should AND must not forget the SOUTH AFRICAN guys n gals who contributed to the well-being of the Oriental Giant.
Sadly...we do not know all of them...and whereto they will find themselves... AUSTRALASIA, HONG KONG, EUROPE, UK, USA or even back to our REPUBLIC OF SA.

Whatever they decide upon, we should THANK them wholeheartedly, and sincerely... wish them well in their future endeavours, along with the previous SA GIANTS who made names for themselves... a la Denman, Roberts, Payne, Marcus, Vorster, Whyte and ... to name but a FEW in the equine game of racing, be it in the PHYSICAL or ADMIN side (viz Debbie Hawkins, and those nice crazy guys doing their presenting bit and trying to pick winners).

WE HAVE A KNACK OF "MAKING IT" in whatever "field"we decide upon don't we.???

Good Greeff, Veale’s Riding High

I looked through the stipes reports for August and found the following:
For the record- 02/08 Aussenkehr (epistaxis- K Mitchley)
The Winter Lake (epstaxis- Smith)
06/08 Torix Night, Aquila Gold, Here comes the Rain (epistaxis- K Mitchley)
09/08 Ethan's Beauty, Lady Zultante (epistaxis- K Mitchley)
Prophet (epistaxis- Kotzen)
16/08 Gunsmoke (epistaxis- Laing)

I'm not sure what constitutes excessive levels of bleeding per trainer/per meeting so I agree with Mr Swart that no public announcement was necessary until a further veterinary investigation was completed. Our NHA is not known for divulging information or responding to media and public, so why was it necessary to make this announcement before further information had been obtained? The NHA is also notorious for selective announcements that serves only their own interests and agenda and with a vindictive and punitive streak and not necessarily for the wellbeing of the industry, so there has to be an ulterior motive behind this announcement.

We are all concerned about the safety and health of racehorses but surely more investigation was needed before an announcement was

Sean seems to be getting some descent rides from the Snaith yard add Greeff and the backing of the KZN trainers WHY not.I doubt Richard will ride all the centers week in week out like last season. You are as good as the horse under you.Richard had the backing of top stables in each province last season and credit to him for his discipline and professionalism throughout the season.Good work ethic, discipline, top rides, trainer backing we could see a new champion this season.Go Sean do it for the

Good Greeff, Veale’s Riding High

Bold comment from Sean Veale. A good bloke and a talented jockey. However, regarding his statement about " if he had the Greeff job he would win the championship" I have a few facts for Sean to ponder.
Richard's stats for the season were as follows.
Number of winners in the provinces listed below.

KZN 126
EC 119
WC 90
Gauteng 43

The point I am making is, yes, it's a huge boost riding for Alan Greef but the championship doesn't start and stop there.

Anyway good luck to Sean, long may his form

Good Greeff, Veale’s Riding High

In an industry where success is often met with scrutiny rather than applause, the recent public dissection of a young, promising trainer like Kelly Mitchley is nothing short of a masterclass in misplaced priorities. The National Horseracing Authority (NHA), in all its wisdom, has chosen to parade its concern for "rider safety, horse welfare, and the integrity of races" by launching an investigation into a few cases of epistaxis—nosebleeds, for those less versed in the clinical vernacular—among Mitchley's horses.

Now, let’s pause and consider the context. Bleeders are not exactly a novel phenomenon, particularly among American stock who have been raced on Lasix, a diuretic long used to prevent such occurrences. Yet, here we are, with the NHA thrusting Mitchley into the spotlight as if she’s committed some cardinal sin of equine care. It’s akin to calling out a high schooler for tripping over their own shoelaces at a school assembly—pointless, petty, and plainly stupid.

What’s worse, this public flogging is being disseminated across platforms, casting a shadow over Mitchley's burgeoning career. The NHA’s on-site investigation, complete with interviews and the insistence that she “collaborate closely with her veterinarian,” smacks of bureaucratic overreach dressed up as concern. If there’s a virus in her stable yard, and if her horses are under the watchful eye of a qualified vet, what exactly does the NHA hope to uncover? A smoking gun in... read more
