Where Have All The Bookies Gone?

In the 1970s there was a Mauritian bookmaker who was a bookie and a punter on the course at Greyville for a some years. His father and grandfather were horse vets at the Mauritius turf club where there was a annual race named after his family, that ran yearly for decades. He resides in Durban. He has vivid first hand memories of many legendary racing incidents in Natal. Anyone remember

Frankie Zackey... I can still kick myself to this day for not taking full advantage of a ex Snaith runner Baton Rouge at 66/1... Having it's 1st run for the Powerful Piet Botha Yard,, I thought it was the perfect trainer strike...Finishing unplace in it's 5 races for the Snaiths,, and now having his 1st run for Piet Botha,, there was just no way I was going to let Baton Rouge run loose,,i had to have a tickle,, it romped in... Having taken an oath never to have a bet in Cape Town,, I had to go for confession and ask for

Cecil, at the moment a hot toddy trumps a Windhoek Lager
We just watch the bruising battle between the NHA and Peter stable. Sometimes with a smile and at others with head shake
Not bothering No more.
We had Joey Joseph, Brian Cherry, Syd Laird, Fred Rickaby who played around in ones head in days gone by.
No space for others.

The to and fro snide remarks emanating between us PUNTERS amongst each other show that there is STILL A ROT in South African racing.

The childish treatment that exists between RACING GROWNUPS IN CONTROL..... enforced on the LOWLY OWNERS/TRAINERS/PUNTERS/ RACING STAFF (ON THE OUTSIDE) ... smirks of the PUMELELA ROT that existed, and ""maybe"" some Cov-19 shenanigans that followed (sic)

The GREED and GLUTTONY that WE allowed and STILL allowed to happen (in broad daylight NOGAL) show us to be totally inept to look after ourselves.... and be grown up enough to admit it.... and do something (I for one DONT KNOW) about it.
Do any PUNTERS remember the old Northen Suburbs ""saying"" when so what became the norm between human beings
........JAAH WELL NOH FINE......

Let's get together I.s.o.pulling apart.

Dear George
How is the weather, you a little grumpy with 2 days No local racing 😅
My fellow punter, love or hate the guy. But why the delays, 300 days for such a simple case with CCTV and video 'proof'

Or will this only stick in the NHA court

For me; Windhoek Laager 🍻 over a milkshake any day off the week.

Newsflash: Hollywoodbets Greyville – Racing Postponed

I can vividly remember a day....many moons ago roundabout turn of the century...when all the jockeys in a race who protested against riding in wet conditions at Hollywoodbets Greyville were actually fined......those were the days when stipes were still stipes and the jockeys very nervous...nowadays the stipes are the nervous

I believe that every unbiased aficionado is aware of the unprecedented improvement suddenly shown by horses joining a certain yard. Logic and common sense dictate that he simply cannot be a '20 length' better trainer than the likes of Justin Snaith etc. But the NHA has really been appalling in its attempts to prove its obvious point. So the matter will remain unresolved and as usual the only winners will be the

Mark you are obviously not a lawyer. The evidence is plain for all to see. There is nothing "unconstitutional, unlawful , pure evil and vindictive" when the racing authorities try and keep the game

Hi Mark
With respect, we don't know who released the video and for what purpose. Unconstitutional and unlawful are huge words, I don't know whether they apply to a leaked video. What I do know, is those words apply to individuals who cheat the system, the fact is, guilty people don't flee the scene in such a

Frankie Zackey...Chetty are you married ? If you are,,then how would you like it if your wife was assaulted? What right did an ex cop have to search and chase the Lady? I'm guessing NO RIGHT.
BTW you are aware that the video's were tampered with? BIG TIME 😡 And you have the nerve to mention rose- tinned lens? Who do you think made and edited and made the comments on the video? what was the purpose?
Oh and who made it available 🤣🤣🤣 it was all done to try and get a conviction, which they had NO CHANCE of getting ... I suggest that you please get your ducks in a straight row before ripping away again...
Anyway once you've straightened pls ask anyone who was at the inquiry,, what is going on,, it's not held in secret...I vaguely remember the Peters asking for the hearing to be streamed live,, any idea why? Again I'm guessing that they had nothing to be worried about...The NHA should never have refused it... The leaking of aN edited video together with witness tampering just shows the desperation and dishonesty! Is just shows how far the powers that be will go....ABSOLUTE

Newsflash: Hollywoodbets Greyville – Racing Postponed

Jockeys are being singled out because in South Africa over the past about 5 years they object to the track conditions if it not to their exact liking and therefore hold the operator and NHA over a barrel as the precedent that they will not ride in heavy going or perfect conditions is now set in stone so the operator has no option but to avoid this from occuring at any cost.In overseas jurisdictions a jockey objection to the state of the track and conditions seldom occurs as can be seen on your T.V. screen when these jockeys ride in rain , sleet , slop , bottomless going and poor visability.

There is no doubt that had the meeting occurred on Sunday at Hollywoodbets Greyville the jockey objection would have been very swift indeed and the meeting abandoned so in many respects the costly airfares to their account is in many respects their own doing.

A horse is a " very sure " footed animal who enjoy " cut in the ground " and I am yet to witness a horse and rider come down due to heavy going
