Van Niekerk Fined For Feature Error

This is rubbish, the race was won! Had he been beaten like J Solomons had been beaten on Quasifore last season, different story. Surely the stipes should have just called him in for a warning on his riding tactics, nothing

I can hear both sides of the argument and I agree that this does create a problem of consistency, whereby any jockey who eases down his mount could come under scrutiny. However, I think these things might have to be looked at on a case by case basis, based on whether a jockey comes seriously close to losing a race as happened here. For once, I think the stewards got it right. Yes, he won, but the thrust of the charges against him are based on whether he rode out his mount to the line, not whether he lost the race, I don't think R2,500 is a massive deterrent, but if this at least sends out a message to jockeys not to drop their hands prematurely, then I'm all for it. As a general principle, I find the practice of prematurely easing down a horse to be incredibly stupid - there is no upside at all, only a potential disaster waiting to happen, as per

Betway Summer Cup Day – Peter Family Issue Statement

The Deafening Silence: Why is the NHRA Dodging Accountability?

In a saga that has gripped the South African racing community for nearly a year, the National Horseracing Authority (NHRA) continues to evade transparency and accountability, raising alarming questions about the organization’s integrity. Despite repeated requests from the public and industry stakeholders, the NHRA remains tight-lipped about the ongoing inquiry into the Peter family’s conduct on Betway Summer Cup Day in November 2023. This silence is not just frustrating—it’s deeply suspicious.

A Pattern of Concealment?

Let’s review the facts: The Peter family, well-respected figures in South African racing, have been under investigation since last year’s Summer Cup Day, where their horses were controversially scratched at the last minute. The NHRA, after an investigation by O’Sullivan Brosnan & Associates, laid charges against Messrs A P Peter (Trainer), P A Peter (Assistant Trainer), and M D Peter (Stable Employee). The hearing, initially set for January 2024, has now been postponed multiple times, with the latest dates set for October 2024.

In their recent statement, the Peter family expressed their frustration with the NHRA’s refusal to livestream the hearings or release the transcripts. They argue that transparency would dispel the damaging rumours and allow the public to understand the facts. Yet, the NHRA has consistently denied these requests, opting... read more

Above noted Mr.Ed. My point is, the bar has been set at R2500 for not riding out your mount.Solomons has been warned(noted). So every Jockey from now on cannot ease up their rides regardless of winning or losing distance...Above happens daily at every racecourse in SA .Today JHB will be no

Hey Cecil
Come now the kid is world class and what an exciting ride
Racing needs excitement we need to allow our jocks to entertain and be themselves
Punish them if they loose
Jip I'm now a Tony and Grant fan this season perhaps Tony should throw him Bavarian

There is something not right with Hollywoodbets Greyville Stewards
If Saartjie had not come up fast would Grant still have got a fine
So stipes want horses to be hard ridden even when the jockey thinks they got race won, which was the case with Grant
Corne was the problem by coming up so fast from way back off a bad draw.in a time of 122.74 secs
Any jockey who eases his mount while winning at Greyville better have eyes in the back of his head.
Stipes could have called Grant in and had a chat with

Does this mean every jockey that eases up before the line will get fined. Consistency is key. You get fined when you lose or do not run a place and now you get fined for winning a race. Tough times to be a jockey. Some jockeys/trainers seems to be targeted every
