Model Man – A Legend Of The Turf

Model Man deserves his place as one of SA's greats. In the '80s when the Millard machine was almost unstoppable, this Pat Lunn-trained superstar was one of few to successfully challenge the juggernaut.
He was also involved in two of the most memorable finishes of the era, losing by the shortest of shortheads in both. The 1986 SA 2000 to Potomac after a ding-dong battle from the top of the straight, and the '87 Mainstay 1800 where he just failed to pin Jeff Lloyd and Main Man. Bush Telegraph in third lost his unbeaten record that day!
Model Man was the only horse in memory to win the Met in April after it was postponed in '87 due to AHS if I recall correctly. In second that day was the brilliant but oft-forgotten filly Enchanted Garden.

Model Man – A Legend Of The Turf

Model Man’s first run was at Clairwood over 1200m . It was drawn 1 and in those years horses drawn 1 “ couldn’t win” from there. Garth Puller rode it and it won unfancied paying over R20 for a win, signs of what was to follow in an illustrious

My condolences to the Swart family and friends.
We didn't always agree but one thing was never in doubt and that is that he truly loved the game.

Model Man – A Legend Of The Turf

Model Man, one of my favorite race horses. I remember him storming home in the Mainstay 1800 at Clairwood, to beat Millard's crack filly Ecurie. Incidentally, MM was a banker in my jackpot that I won that

TC02 Testing – Trainer Calls For More Transparency

Besides all off the reservations which numerous people have already expressed on various platforms, one also has to consider the effects that this testing has on the horses - some are tested twice and do not react well at all which affects performance. On top of this the testing and subsequent withdrawal of horses shortly before races also impacts negatively on punters who have already put in various permutations which cost hard earned money at the end of the day. Not to mention trainers and owners who also lose out - things have to change- the game is difficult enough as it is

Dougie And Lyle Set To Show A Six Pack On Sunday

This comment of mine IS TOTALLY AGAINST THE GRAIN.
Methinx Lyle Hewitson should pack up his TACK and return home FORTHWITH.
He is not getting the mounts he used to get...and what he gets aren't even worthy of running places...never mind winning them.
Before he went to the South for a short sojourn he was starting to ride NEGATIVELY
Upon his return...maybe 2 (two) winners and ...at best 5 or 6 places.
Many a time ...A COMPLETE BLANK for the whole day.

Lyle, it's not a disgrace, you gave it your ALL with what you rode... (and gave me a slight profit)
C""mon home... ROSIER days await you.
Tally
