Where Will You Be Racing On Monday?

The bigger question is where will we be racing locally Wednesday 28th August
Gold Circle following in footsteps of NHRA.

AHS Vaccination Shortage – Links To R500 Million Scandal?

I find it awesome (sarky) that the goal posts can be moved to December......personally NO racing for 3 months while this got sorted would have been short term PAIN but long term gain. Sometimes something needs to die before rebirth is completely

AHS Vaccination Shortage – Links To R500 Million Scandal?

Let us all rise from our seats and give a standing ovation to the National Horseracing Authority (NHA) of South Africa. No, really, take a moment. It’s not every day we witness such a display of strategic silence and breathtaking inaction. (Again). The NHA’s recent handling of the African horse sickness (AHS) vaccine crisis has been nothing short of a masterclass in how to do absolutely nothing when everything is at stake.

For months, horse owners, veterinarians, and the entire equestrian community have been wringing their hands, frantically searching for AHS vaccines as though they were the last drop of water in the Karoo. And where was the NHA during this time? They were doing what they do best: sitting back, relaxing, and presumably pondering the mysteries of the universe, deflecting and sewing misinformation in echo chambers. Why bother addressing a vaccine shortage when you can just extend the vaccination window and call it a day? Genius, truly.

But let’s not be too harsh. After all, the NHA did finally extend the vaccination window for horses in the AHS infected zone to 31 December 2024. Bravo! What a relief to horse owners who were previously tearing their hair out, wondering how to protect their animals. Who needs vaccines when you can simply vaccinate later? The logic is flawless. And as for those horses in the surveillance and free zones? Don’t worry, they’ll need official permission from the Boland State Vet to be vaccinated. Because,... read more

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

The wonderful lady is 4 years my senior...oh how I yearn for all those wonderful years that have GONE ON BY...
BEFORE COMPUTERS... checking Jackpots and Place Accumulators in stages (after every race...over and over by hand).
When win, place, double and dupla tickets (in all the possible shades of COLOURS were picked out of the bunch hanging from pegboards and manually PERFORATED with a different code for every race at every meet.
There was a vociferous, boisterous and happy go lucky ticket seller who later on became the ever so popular tote manager of the GERMISTON, BENONI, NEWMARKET RACING CLUBS...Des Webber.
SUPERFECTA & PICK 6 bets came on board much, much later.

Wernars: Lerena And Van Vuuren Take Sabbatical

Hi Cecil
Mr Wernars used the word when we spoke to him.
It indicates a break from each other. We are not aware of the underlying dynamics. Maybe your reference to 'die moer in' is a reasonabe

Cape’s Lady Trainers Breaking New Ground

....and...my memory only goes as far as the days of Ms Hilda Knaupp and not long thereafter Ms Jean Barnard who became Ms Jean Heming.

I remember so clearly the days of ALBERTON, GERMISTON & VAAL racing (when when I worked for the Transvaal & Free State clubs) when Jean came into the pub and almost physically removed her "CONTACTS" from the pub and forbade them to "DISH-OUT" info for the odd round of drinks.....boy... did we coin it...!!!
Both ladies had the knack of training long distance winners...(from a mile and a half up to two miles).
Wonderful stories-days they were.!!

Seventh Last Kranji Racemeeting On Sunday

One can only stare in wonder, the WONDERFUL WORKING TOGETHER of the HKJC and the SJC......
(Hong Kong & Singapore Jockey Clubs respectfully.).....
that the Singaporian club is 7 meets away from FINALITY, and the Hong Kongian club (sic) allowed Singapore to flight all these last few meets.(more than 15 or so)
A lesson in partnerships of some kind or another to be learnt by all racing clubs in the game.
A wonderful opening on the horizon for all Singaporian owners, trainers, jockeys and STABLES.
A "bumping of heads, ideas, and systems" is on the cards, however... the winner CAN ONLY BE '"FLAT"' HORSE RACING IN THE ORIENT.

Betway Summer Cup Day – Peter Family Issue Statement

Frankie Zackey... Nigel Riley was PROMISED at the AGM meeting in January that he'll have the minutes within 3 weeks... We now in August going into September,, that's 28 weeks later and Nigel is still waiting...Pls don't be surprised if the hearing runs into 2025... Postponements cost the industry Millions,,we could be racing for 200k in maiden plates races with the money they've wasted...I believe there's a vacancy at the NHA,, they're looking for a Female Special Investigator
