Joao what you suggest with regards to rehabilitation/community service has a lot of merit and is certainly worth consideration. I'm all for it IF it will change behaviour but must still get my mind around implimentation. I.o.w I haven't thought it through properly in my own mind.

As for fines (in isolation) my first reaction is that it should be proportionate to the purse

As for whipping this is where the softy (believe it or not) in me comes out. I ALWAYS ask the rider in the parade ring. "Please don't hit her/him hard or at all" Granted I have no idea how sore it is but if horses shy away from the whip surely they don't enjoy it? I'm all for riding without a crop but simultaneously admit my ignorance in this

Great Podcast which put things into perspective on many fronts. My question has owners become collateral damage in this saga, as Mr. Bortz alluded to the cancellation of race meetings was by and large to punish the jockeys for their actions. What happens to the horses nominated to race & who could have earned at those cancelled meetings. Do the owners get a rebate on training fees curtsey of Cape Racing? A fragile eco-system made even more

Bortz – On South African Horseracing’s Past, Present And The Future

The podcast was insightful, but I have to disagree with Greg Bortz’s view that corruption is just about the stealing of money.

Corruption runs much deeper than that. It’s about dishonesty, abuse of power, cronyism, and institutional rot. When an organisation lacks transparency, silences critics, or twists the rules to serve its own interests, it erodes integrity and trust.

A corrupt institution doesn’t just fail to do the right thing - it goes after those who speak up. The NHA has repeatedly targeted people who ask tough questions while, at least once in recent weeks alone, looking the other way when it suited them. That alone speaks volumes.

To say corruption is only about money is to ignore the deeper problem. Real corruption is the betrayal of trust. And by that standard, the NHA has a lot to answer

Fairview Friday Meeting Ends Abruptly

i think all the jockeys must be fined cause some of us punters like myself played no 7 for a big win R100 and it was in front with 5 lengths at 700m to go so these jockeys caused us a race and money for nothing, and they are proffetional jockeys in UK that cannot happen.so

Fourie On Fire!

Joe in my opinion the first bump ironically is what saved Fire Attack. Royal Victory shifted out for more radically than Fire Attack shifted in.
That's how I saw it. Very differently to the way you saw it.
The second bump was, as the Stipes indicate, was too close to the line to affect the result. Anyway Richard had put his hands down

Fourie On Fire!

if anyone sees the second bump as both horses doing, they don't see much. The first bump was clearly both horses shifting albeit the winner by more than RV, however Muzi did not switch his whip after the first bump as that would have resulted in him possibly being blamed for intimidating FA. Sad day again as wrong horse awarded race and subsequently all stud book data skewed going forwards. This just adds to the whip ruling being only financially impacting on the jockeys, winners who unfairly won influence the stud books as

Hollywoodbets Durbanville Protest – Greg Bortz Responds To Jockeys

The NHS are what we call in the UK a bunch of old farts. Amateurs and full of their own importance. Why they could not wait until the end of the meeting I do not know. Cannot see peace breaking out for some time.

Now For Some Good News! Ormond Ferraris Inducted Into SA Hall Of Fame

I think 4racing could have held a black tie dinner gala event on another night because after the champions day Grand finale I only Saw Johnny Geroudis and Weichong Marwing from the ex jockeys and trainer's - I couldn't pick up really because the Hall of Fame induction the lights were very dim - I think that the racecourse management switchED big entire floodlight that comes down from the boxes because I was watching from a box balcony upstairs.
I think 4racing could have done better than that - like I say a black tie gala dinner would have been ideal for a man of Mr Ferraris stature. Then everyone from the past to present jockeys and trainer's and some owners, could have engaged with

The Mercury is a G1 and although the Golden Horse is now a G2, there is not that much difference in stake money
(R1 million compared to R750 000).
