Botes Bomber Wears The Slipper

I could not wait for this filly to win on July day. Being a paternal great granddaughter of Rakeen and maternal of Al Mufti, her pedigree goes directly back to the famous three imports of the 1991

Hollywoodbets Durban July – Rough Stuff, But Crawford Does It Again!

Since there's no other forum in which to mention this, I've observed some interesting trivia from this year's July.

Vercingetorix sired the first two horses past the post, but still failed to outdo his sire Silvano whose progeny filled the first three positions in 2015.
Four of the first five on Saturday are closely related to past winners. Oriental Charm is the maternal grandson of Grey's Inn, who wore the SA flag saddle cloth to victory 20 years ago. Cousin Casey through his dam is the nephew of 2009 champ Big City Life. Likewise Flag Man's dam is a half sister to EyeoftheTiger (2006). Fifth placed See It Again is famously a three-parts brother to dual winner Do It Again.
The third, fourth and fifth horses are all trained in KZN (Can't remember when that last happened).
Two of the placings Royal Victory and Flag Man were bred in KZN.
Perhaps this is more coincidental, but to my memory this was at least the fifth time a Van Zyl-trained horse occupied the fourth box.
Unlike 1994 when the unlucky Pas De Quoi could object against the original winner Surfing Home, horses finishing outside the top 4 are not permitted to do so these days, hence the suspension and fine for VD Merwe but no result change.
Also as an FYI, 1994 was the last time a KZN horse won the July, not 1992 like Alistair Cohen, for whom I have much respect, has been telling people. Space Walk was trained at Summerveld by Ricky

Hollywoodbets Durban July – Rough Stuff, But Crawford Does It Again!

When I saw Shoemaker pulled out of the race, my heart sank as the memory of losing Mujbaar a few weeks ago is still fresh. It's a relief to see that, all things considered, he is OK - everything else about the race is secondary.

Lots of positives regarding the first 4 - brave performance from the winner, fantastic redemption story from Cousin Casey (a horse who I'd written off at the end of last season), and Royal Victory and Flag Man both running blinders in the circumstances. But it was marred terribly by the sight of See It Again being baulked at such a crucial stage - given the circumstances, it was a mighty effort from him under 60kg to run such a close fifth. Best horse in the race.

Eye-catching run from Future Pearl in sixth, especially given where he came from turning for home.

I won't be writing off Green With Envy. Given his come-from-behind style, we all knew he was going to need a massive dose of luck. Given the weight, and how the race panned out, being beaten just over 2.5 lengths was a reasonable performance. I think there's plenty to look forward to from him next

Hi Ray
The July had always been rough with hard luck stories making this the race of legends
The best most luckiest horse won on the day no wet wipes no tears
Next year you already know Brett and James are coming for the Hatrick you have to believe now that rough or not they seem to know how to make their own Luck or was it Masterful Planning

I will say this Striker 15 years ago would have seen the chance to be a stride or two closer to make the object a certainty Garth well even at 60 he would have made that objection a done deal
The thing is to do that you have to be hungry enough to risk a possible fall
I have seen Garth especially win countless objections merely by being aware of what's coming he was a master at the exaggerated stand up and straight to the stipes
Just my five cents for striker and no the garden province is no make up

As for Rachel it's time to move to the Cape Justins third choice has winning chances Muis has been a great mentor but he will always be a phone call away it's time for the big league find Karl K he is the best mentor you could find and of course BasilM is there

Very well done to the connections! Even if gimmes’s countess was given a half decent ride by king Craig it would not have beaten the winner. Feel again for us the public for having another very fancied horse given a shocking ride again by CZ. Maybe DK will see he isn’t the man for the job…. So
