Lets hope Isivunguvungu gives a good account of himself. I can't see him beating Howdeepisyourlove but I HOPE I'm wrong and will be cheering for him as will the rest of SA. For a change Cecil, Mark, even Fred and Christian will be singing from the same hymn sheet lol

Because of his utterances there is no horse racing in the Western Cape today (Saturday) This has worked out well for GvN as he can meet with his lawyers/advisors today to draft the apology which will probably be forwarded to Sporting Post?
I'm not going into the "other debates" as I'm becoming weary (because of it) and I want to concentrate on the Meydan race card. However I want to conclude with; Lash out at those above you in public at your own peril and be prepared to carry the consequences like a man (in this instance). This does not only apply to horse racing but all walks of life e.g. Employee/Employer, Supplier/Buyer, child/adult relationships etc.
This reminds me of the times when Dennis the Menace left his parents home in protest, only to return after a while when he realised it's not that bad after all. So will GvN

Freedom of speech has consequences.One must think before speaking out.It may be your right but is it acceptable to those who it is aimed at and who actually control racing at present..He has the right of appeal and with a good lawyer to argue his case he may get the sanction reduced or even quashed ,though i think that would be asking too much .My question to the NHA is what is going to happen to the other jockeys who refused to carry on with their riding engagements. To punish only GVN and not the other jockeys will surely leave the NHA open to claims of unfairness and inconsistency in the application of their disciplinary

When we sign documents, whether it be buying a new car or house or *contract for employment* ( I believe the jockeys sign contracts with the HRA) then we sign, also to abide by the rules and conditions of such contract...
Now when we sign this contract we are bound by the rules in it - whether we like it or not...
So, the people who supported the jockey and the jockey strike thereafter must please take into account that the said jockey(s) was in breach of contract...
I am one of the greatest supporters of the jockeys and also give armchair comments when they have a bad day... but we are all human and sometimes we overstep the boundaries in the heat of the moment.
Mr Van Niekerk, take the "medicine" and come back stronger..
I will always support you, and our other jockeys... tough job you guys

I happen to agree with everything GvN said, even the manner he went about addressing it, as I firmly believe the issues had been raised multiple times and nothing was being done as it would have tarnished the NHA's "GOOD NAME...lol.
My suggestion would be to have an independent appeal board comprising of HKJC members who would have no bias and cannot be bought to judge each appeal on its merit
Should a jockey/trainer or anyone wish to appeal a sentence/fine or whatever they can approach the Neutral Appeal board, should they lose the appeal, they are are liable for the costs, however should the appeal board find in their favour be it guilt or non guilt, or the fine or suspension imposed was unjust then the NHA have to bear the

As for going back to pre Hong Kong (junior school) as per my good friend from Albert Falls who's name I can't recall now for the life of me; Cecil that will be regarded as vindictive and having a vendetta, both things that I've been accused of here. So as is the case with certain jockeys I'm self-imposing certain sanctions on myself. I'm not prepared to go that LOW (junior school) if you'll excuse the pun.

Christian , a fair ruling would be for the NHA to also apologize to the owners and trainers of race horses that were recently incorrectly scratched by the NHA in their implementation of the testing of horses just before a race , those horses would not be scratched today with the same readings so the NHA got it all wrong leaving those owners and trainers to scratch their heads in shock ?

Did he not take into consideration that there are other jockeys who might have had one or two rides on the day who rely heavily on that fee. Only because he's a high profile jockey doesn't give him the right to act in this manner. Doubt very much if it was one at the bottom of the ladder. Also the cost to trainers for transportation of horses and all other expenses incurred by owners and the disappointment of attending the meeting to see their horses run.
