"...while Galileo’s triple Gr1 winning daughter Rhododendron (a full-sister to the South African based sire Flying The Flag) is the dam of Wednesday’s Gr1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes winner Auguste Rodin."
I remain floored that SA has maintained its lack of appetitite for FLYING THE FLAG.
If it can be accepted that a good horse may lose its form but never its class, its astounding that breeders and buyers, who drive breeding decisions ultimately, continue to shun this magnificent sire bloodline.
Just maybe they will re-think their view come July 6th. One can only hope that FLAG MAN earns his sire some respect for what courses through his

TCO2 Testing – SA Racing’s Road To Damascus Moment
Can all those you are in favour of TCO2 testing in it's current format please explain why the number of scratchings are increasing instead of decreasing? Surely logic dictates that "cheating" trainers, now aware of the testing would decrease or eliminate their "milkshaking" practices not increase it. Then why the continual spike in positives?
Just

Sorry to say, but it seems that you are not well informed on potential causes of heightened TCO2 levels, much like the NHA...but that explains your support of them.
Testing in its current form is not levelling playing fields, it's killing the sport for disillusioned punters, owners and trainers. I wait with bated breath (and absolute fear) to see what happens on July

TCO2 Testing – SA Racing’s Road To Damascus Moment
The obvious reason for the NHA not taking action against trainers is that they themselves are uncertain as to what causes the heightened TCO2 levels. Which it turn means that they themselves don't trust their own testing processes 100%. Why then implement the test when you are not confident of what the results are telling you?
This smacks of impulsive decision making, power play, seeking relevance and in my opinion stemmed from personal agendas/vendettas against certain trainers by certain people within the NHA

TCO2 Testing – SA Racing’s Road To Damascus Moment
Frankie Zackey... One needs to ask themselves do all trainers train their horses exactly the same ? slightly different or completely different ? My opinion,, no trainer trains the same... How many trainers give horse's a run to bring them on for their next run ? My opinion,, there are many trainers,, so I'm assuming these horses will never get a positive reading... How many trainers give horses runs to get their merit ratings down ? MY opinion,,many trainers,, so again I'm assuming these horses will never get a positive reading... How many trainers are there that are soft on their horse's ? My opinion a good few,, so I'm assuming again you'll never see a positive reading.. It's no secret when it comes to 1st timers,, that there's a good few trainers that are soft on their babies 1st time out or that are coming back from a layoff,,so again I'm assuming that these horses will never be effected by the TC02 readings... How many trainers feed differently ? A good few...How many trainers use the same feed ? a good few...How many trainers can afford good bedding throughout the month ? I'm assuming not too many,, and medication,,vitamins and whatever else on their horses ? Unfortunately many trainers are financially (stuffed) so many need to stretch feed,, bedding and giving vitamins on a regular basis,, as we know this could be costly,, so I'm not sure how many can afford this..How many times have you heard of trainers feed and bedding going missing ? I've heard of a good few... read more

The Durban July – 21st Century Magic
As the Hollywoodbets Durban July day looms, the TCO2 crisis is also hanging like a dark cloud over the industry, surely a quick fix solution is needed for the day to avert international embarrassment, potential protests and riot and overall dampener on the day.
The NHA should announce a stop gap measure for the day. The top 5 finishers in every race will be tested immediately after the running of each race. Any horse found over the limit should be immediately disqualified but the result will stand for payout purposes. Additional punitive measures should include forfeiture of any stakes money, and a suspension for the horse. A fine for the trainer could also apply.
This could be enough of a deterant for would be "milkshakers" to cease and desist any

The Durban July – 21st Century Magic
According to some, after checking the photo finish, the judges took 12 minutes to finally declare El Picha the winner of the 2000 July
Officially the time was given as 7 minutes.
And after that we were told by the powers that be that the days of a deadheat in South African horse racing was over/no more.
We were told the judges could separate horses by the thickness of cigarette paper using new equipment
Seems the new equipment was a

Flag Man Catches Eye At Big Race Gallops
Having just watched the post-gallops interviews I have to question why Justin Snaith and Andre Nel were nastily critical of local jockeys. I do follow racing worldwide, and despite the win against a very weak Met field, in my mind Daniel Muscutt is no better than at least seven or eight local jocks. If he finishes in the top 10 with Double Superlative, I'll be very surprised! Zac Lloyd is a budding superstar and would've been a better choice if they were looking overseas for better jockeys.
In fact, Snaith was on the defensive and also having a go at other trainers who were galloping their July charges against "lead horses". Even with the weight advantage and Fourie, I'm confident none of his three will beat Flag

All good George , sad that the Sea Cottage incident has never been completely understood and with the years running along at a good click it appears the narrative will pass into history with just the gist of the exact facts as they unfolded over those two months in 1966 before that July Handicap ironically won by his stablemate Java Head
