TCO2 Concerns – NHA Reaffirms Confidence In Testing Procedure

These guys are bullies, i am totally shocked, it is not worth punting on exotics. Punters must boycott these bets and let them live their lives, lets see how much longer this industry would last, not more than a year if punters just quit exotic bets. As for new owners, one would be out of their mind to buy a horse, imagine the investment and the fees paid for one whole year, then your horse is due to run and its scratched, nope not worth

TCO2 Testing – SA Racing’s Road To Damascus Moment

Most interesting indeed.
One would be forgiven for thinking that TCO2 testing was discovered by the NHA of SA and is chartering new territory .
The NHA has adopted this measure, and the irony is that they they are now milkshaking punters in particular and the sport in general with their perceptions and beliefs regarding this controversial issue/s.

1.There exists a lack of certainty as to what constitutes milkshaking IE are every and any TCO2 test definitive and absolute in determining if cheating is or is not present ?
2.Are the time frames adopted by NHA before , between and after tests an acceptable standard...globally ? How have they refined 36 mmol as an exact science ?
3.Once their own guidelines have been followed in arriving at a scratching. does the NHA stand by and show confidence in their system by instituting punitive measures against the accountable persons ? Do blood tests accompany any further investigations regarding a scratched runner, particularly in determining if/what / how much has been administered or not ?

If the NHA unpack this issue as per my three questions above, everyone would be better off

TCO2 Concerns – NHA Reaffirms Confidence In Testing Procedure

The Canadians actually have a rule (rule 37.01) whereby a licencee (owner or trainer) can appeal a tco2 fine, on the premise that a horse has naturally high tco2 levels.
The horse is then placed in a guarded quarantine facility, allowed to excercise, and is fed only oats, hay and water (all at the sole expense of the licensee).
During the quarantine period the horse is then periodically tested for tco2 levels.
The internet article which I read is dated August '23, so the rule should still be in place.
Interesting.

So we must believe these people at the NHA who obviously did not read the article or take opinion from the well renowned vet who wrote eloquently on the SPorting Post site. They are not listening to trainers with 40 years plus experience in the game and bury their heads in the sand and say stuff 99% of racing

How do you address the following:
1. Exotic bets - horses are only tested on arrival at the races. Punters have been "ripped off" in recent weeks.
2. What is the operators stance on the punter " Rip Off" due to TC02 testing regarding exotic bets like the Pick6 & Jackpot. They can no long standby and watch how the punter gets

Does this mean that the NHA is admitting that all of the 30+ horses that were withdrawn prior to the races should have been allowed to run?

I wonder which legal team will be bringing the Class Action against the NHA for all of those owners who owned the scratched horses. Any suggestions?

Looks like another blood bath against the NHA.

I feels the need to respond to PL.Nel thus; it has become apparent you have taken sides in this nonsensical practise. What would be a problem in letting horses race and test all of them after each race and shame the culprits? Is this practice not open to abuse in selecting races for testing as opposed to all races? Is there no danger of abuse where certain trainers are forewarned of testing or no testing of certain races as to allow them to milk the system? If this practice of testing was meant to harm some and not others it is now starting to harm those who are used to delivering 4 to 5 winners in a meeting cause that seems to be the thing of the past and yet open to abuse. Scrap this
