I'd better correct myself before I get lambasted. Java (Jack Butler) got a hattrick in the SC from 1956 onwards and the great Elevation (George Azzie) repeated it from 1972 onwards.

Fredrick....how come you dont remember the great opportunities her mentor...Michael Roberts...received as an appie...he was champion jockey as an apprentice and rode all the big horses of his time in all the big races...
Even Lyle Hewitson was recently champion jock as an apprentice and probably also received more and better opportunities than Rachel...
As for being liked by many people in racing...its true because she behaves lady like and with dignity and grace and respect to everyone she meets it appears...so may the opportunities keep coming...u go

I would never ever put anyone off backing any horse - but I strongly suspect BARBARESCO won't stay a 10F at Turfontein - especially if he doesn't settle early and it's soft - I was on course when he ran a brilliant 3rd in the Daily News and was keen on him for the July - then I remembered Millards advise - to win the July you need a 2400

Hi James, SP reported a while ago that Lerena accepted the ride on Royal Victory when the news of Muzi Yeni's injury broke.
I had a look at previous SC winners back to 2000 and found one horse that won the SC in consecutive years, that was Master Sabina trained by Geoff Woodruff.
I'm pretty sure no KZN trained horse has ever achieved that. The great Furious won in 1978 and placed 3rd and 4th in subsequent years.
Interestingly, Furious also won the Champions Cup at Turffontein, which I assume is now the Champions Challenge, a feat repeated by Royal Victory earlier this year.
So Royal Victory is on the cusp of making history for KZN, if he wins the SC two years in succession.
