Weights: If The Hollywoodbets Durban July Was Run Today…

Save the date - Saturday 1 July 2023

The 2023 Hollywoodbets Durban July countdown continues with 48 hopefuls in the mix as the big race approaches the 50 day mark.

There is still a chance for further entries up to 11h00 on 13 June, on which date the weights will be published and no further penalties will apply.

While L’Ormarins King’s Plate winner Al Muthana is currently a non-entry and an unlikely inclusion judging by the comments of trainer Ricky Maingard last week that his charge’s main target is the Hollywodbets Gr1 Gold Challenge on 10 June, he is the one horse that would safely anchor the topweight berth in the build-up.

The Hollywoodbets Durban July weight range is 60kg and will not be less than 52kg.

The minimum and maximum weight for 4-year-olds and older:

  • Colts and Geldings – 53kg / 60kg
  • Fillies and Mares -52kg / 59kg

The minimum weight for 3-year-olds:

  • Colts and Geldings 53kg / 57kg
  • Fillies 52kg / 56kg

Notwithstanding the ranges indicated above, the Handicapper will raise all weights proportionately to 60kg, should the top-weight be less than 60kg at time of final declaration.

The Sporting Post handicappers have produced a snapshot of the weights that would be carried if the race were to be run today:
