It’s classy this year, so mind your P’s and Q’s! The marketing blurb for this year’s Vodacom Durban July may just be concealing an ironic veiled message after it was reported today that an organiser of one of the marquees on the day has banned scantily clad women, alcohol, cigars and gambling from his party venue.
The 2013 Vodacom Durban July Day Theme was recently announced.
Posh? Oh My Gosh! will no doubt have the fashionistas and the social set tweeting and the social media buzzing for weeks as they decide what is hot and what is not.
The biggest race day in Africa also comes with the recent announcement of a Stakes increase of the race to a generous R3,5 million.
But the All Nations Cathedral Church’s Pastor Andile KaMajola has other ideas about how to celebrate for what is to many, the party event of the year.
The Weekend Argus reports today that the Andile KaMajola Gospel Lounge marquee will be abuzz with gospel singers, various church pastors, business people and government officials.
The 200 seater tent will have a strict dress code, and gospel songs, powerful sermons and motivational talks will be the order of the day.
KaMajola is an award winning gospel artist and spent 14 years on the streets of Durban as a street child.
“The day has always been about gambling, women in skimpy clothes, alcohol and cigarettes but I want to try and change that,” he said.
To each his own. But horseracing revolves around the punter and the gambling rand. Not government aid and handouts.
The good pastor will hopefully also turn a blind eye to the thirteenth race.
