On The house at Greyville. The perfect way to pass a Thursday morning

Next week is a big one all round for the Gr1 Vodacom Durban July and all the debate and speculation will come to an end on Tuesday 24 June when the final field and barrier draws will be announced. Tellytrack is expected to cross live to Greyville at 12h45.

A field of 20 will be declared, which includes 4 reserve runners which will be scratched by Friday 4 July, if not required.

The selection panel faces a thankless task with a good few fringe runners making a bid for inclusion.

The compulsory (in terms of the race conditions) Public Gallops will be held at Greyville on Thursday 26 June at 07h00.

Each gallop will be timed and televised on Tellytrack. A panel discussion on the individual horses’ performances will take place after the gallops.

The gallops are a traditional and very popular feature of the Vodacom Durban July build-up and the public are invited to enjoy the proceedings and the free coffee and sticky buns on offer at Greyville.

A continental breakfast will also be available in the Durban View Room at R60 a head for those wishing to watch the gallops in comfort. Reservations are essential for the Durban View breakfast. Call Gail on 031 314 1780.

Does Futura warrant a place in the final field of 16?

Please post a comment and tell us why and who deserves a berth ahead of him.

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute. What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
