Colt Or Filly To Win July

Time for geldings to step aside

The 7-year wait may be over after today’s Gr1 Vodacom Durban July. It’s time a colt or filly wins again!

Lawrence Schaefer writes in the Sporting Post Mailbag that the July is a stallion-making race – but the last six renewals have been won by geldings.

The only healthy, fertile, Vodacom Durban July-winning stallion at stud now is Pomodoro who is an average sire.

Dynasty has passed on now.

Legislate is still around but has fertility issues and is not very productive at stud.

So it’s now time another colt / entire or even a filly/mare wins the July  for the sake of the SA Breeding Industry.

There are two colts and one filly who could win the Vodacom Durban July on Saturday and they are:

  • Got the Greenlight, Kommetdieding and She’s A Keeper.
