Viva De Janeiro Can Redeem Himself Today

Vaal first is off at 12h25

Eight races are carded on the Vaal Classic course this afternoon.

The first is due off at 12h25 with the lucky last scheduled for 16h30.

Viva De Janeiro from the Johan Janse van Vuuren stable takes his place in Race 4. He was a tad disappointing in his last start over 1450m on this course.

His debut effort when third over 1000m at Turffontein was encouraging. The 1200m should be right up his alley.

He meets the right field this afternoon and from his good draw of four, he should be the one to beat.

The in-form Paul Matchett saddles River Romeo in Race 7. He showed some signs of a form return in his last start over this course and distance.

The son of Pomodoro takes a slight drop-in class today. He is drawn widest of all but is likely to use his early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy.

He may be hard to peg back in the run down to the line.
