Vintage Yearling Auction – Preview

The Equimark Vintage Yearling Sale has long-since had the reputation of being an outstanding source of top class winners.  The sale’s roll-of-honour includes the likes of Victory Moon, Crimson Palace, Trademark, Bunter Barlow, Sun Classique and too many others to mention who have scaled the heights both at home and abroad.  The 2011 sale will take place at Durbanville racecourse on Saturday 5th March (18h30 start) and Sunday 6th March (11h00 start), with 288 yearlings on offer.

Many of South Africa’s leading sires (including champion Jet Master) are represented on the 2011 sale, which contains the usual mixture of both proven stallions, up-and-coming young sires, and first season unknown quantities.  Time and space does not allow us to look at every yearling on offer, but let’s take a quick chronological peak at some of the lots on offer – with the customary apology to those vendors whose pride-and-joys don’t get a mention.  It’s not personal, I promise, writes Matthew Lips.
