In turbulent times of a lack of accountability by South African racing administrators, it is interesting to read reports that Victorian Racing Club members want answers after questioning chairman Amanda Elliott’s lavish spending this year.
The website justhorseracing.com.au Elliott has been questioned by VRC members over lavish spending including a lunch in London which has claimed to cost A$100,000.
More than 100 members have questioned the extravagant spending which included four trips to London as well as questioning her use of an expensive Lexus vehicle.
The letter was served this week by members as candidates vie for positions on the board including Elliott.
Amanda Elliott became the first female Chair of the Victoria Racing Club (VRC) in the club’s 153-year history in February this year.
A passionate racehorse owner and former breeder, Amanda has been a trail blazer in race club administration in Australia.
She was elected to the VRC Board of Directors in 2002, becoming only the second female VRC committee member in 140 years. She was elected Vice Chair in 2011, becoming the first female executive office holder of a major city race club in the country. She became acting Chair in December last year and was elected unopposed by the Board of Directors to lead the VRC, which is home of the Melbourne Cup and one of Australia’s oldest racing institutions.
