Veale: Fined And Suspended – Misuse Of Crop

Enjoys right of appeal against the penalty imposed

The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa confirms that at an Inquiry held in Cape Town on Wednesday, 15 January 2025, Jockey Sean Veale was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, (read with Guideline M in Appendix E on the use of the crop).

The particulars being that he misused his crop by striking TRIPPI’S SILK more than twelve times (18) in the entire race in Race 6 at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Racecourse on 28 December 2024.

Jockey Veale pleaded guilty and was found guilty of the charge.

In assessing the penalty, the Inquiry Board considered the aggravating and mitigating factors as well as Jockey Veale’s record pertaining to this type of contravention and imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of fourteen (14) days and a fine of R25 000 (twenty-five thousand rand).

Jockey Veale was given the Right of Appeal against the penalty imposed.
