Wrong Race Distance – NHA Launch Investigation

What is going on at the Vaal?

The National Horseracing Authority have launched an investigation into the fourth race at the Vaal today, after it was held over the incorrect distance. The meeting changed from Vaal classic track to the old turf track after overnight rain.

Confusion reigns. No information forthcoming from any quarters.

A note appeared on the card changes section of the official SA Horseracing site this morning that the distances of races 4,5 and 6 had been amended from 1450m to 1400m.

Despite this change, the stalls were placed at the 1450m for the fourth race and the race was run from that distance.

No objections were placed and the race went all-clear.

The fifth race, however, was then run at the amended trip of 1400m.

NHA Racing Control Executive Mr Arnold Hyde responded immediately to our enquiry and advised that an investigation would be launched.

We also approached the Racing Association and Phumelela but no response has been forthcoming.
