Multiple UK champion jockey Oisin Murphy is set to undertake his second visit to South Africa in the space of six weeks when he rides at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on L’Ormarins King’s Plate day, Saturday 4 January.
A glance at the engaged riders in advance of final declarations on Monday indicates that Murphy will ride at the Southern Suburbs track for the first time and will partner Royal Aussie for Justin Snaith in the day’s topliner, the R3 million L’Ormarins Gr1 King’s Plate.
Royal Aussie is currently quoted at 16-1 on the Hollywoodbets ante-post betting boards.
Murphy rode Frances Ethel for Team Valor in the Betway Gr1 Summer Cup at Turffontein last month. The Rafeef filly ran unplaced, and the closest finish of his four rides was on Fiery Pegasus for Joey Soma. She finished second to World Of Alice in the Betway Gr3 Fillies Mile.
Murphy’s globetrotting exploits saw him win the HPSL Indian 2000 Gr1 Guineas on Santissimo for trainer Pesi Shroff in Mumbai last weekend.
The final fields for the first South African major raceday of the new year will be published on Monday 30 December.
