Stallion Manager John Freeman announced this morning that Pathfork and Philanthropist had been released from quarantine last weekend and had arrived at their new homes in the Cape. Both have started covering with good report from their respective stud masters.
Pathfork arrives at Highlands
Pathfork, a son of Champion USA sire 2011 Distorted Humor, is a champion 2yo Irish Racehorse out of a stakes winning (by Sadler’s Wells) three parts sister to multiple Champion miler Spinning World – also a highly successful sire. He was undefeated at 2yrs, the highest rated 2yo in Ireland in 2010 and the joint 5th highest rated 2yo in the world that year. A handsome 16.1hh bay he has already covered his first mares at Highlands and Mike Sharkey is delighted with this newest addition to the stallion barn. “He has learnt the ropes very quickly and has settled in well” said Sharkey who is “over-the-moon” with the look of his new sire prospect.
Classic Champion Canadian sire Philanthropist is ranked amongst the top 3
Philanthropist released from quarantine, now at his new home Drakenstein Stud
active sires in Canada this year and produced a classic champion 3yo racehorse (Pender Harbour) from his first crop. A grandson of Champion 2yo and Champion 3yo and sire of Champions Roberto (via one of his most prolific stakes producing sons; Kris S), stakes winner Philanthropist was bred by Ogden Phipps and hails from the Phipps family’s famous sire producing Grey Flight dynasty that has produced the likes of National Assembly, Bold Lad, What a Pleasure etc.
Philanthropist stands at Drakenstein alongside Champion Freshman sire Trippi who produced another stakes winner and a stakes placed 2nd in USA last weekend. Philanthropist covered 114 mares in Canada before embarking on a long journey from his base in Canada to quarantine, a long flight to Europe, a stay over and then an even longer flight to quarantine in the Cape – he was released from quarantine yesterday and covered his first mare immediately on arrival at the farm. Stud manager Ross Fuller gave him another mare this morning and is very excited about having this great horse as a follow-up to the farms other well-proven stallion Trippi.
