Maine Chance Silvano stallion Vercingetorix has made a flying start to his stud career and his seven yearlings on offer at the Cape Premier Yearling Sale on 23 January are bound to attract plenty of interest.

With his multiple champion Dad Silvano not getting any younger, Vercingetorix looks an exciting prospect to take over the royal mantle and he made it 100% first crop runners to winners when his son Astrix won the opener at Greyville on Sunday.
Ridden by Lyle Hewitson for Paul Peter, Astrix showed the benefit of the experience of one run under the belt when he led all the way to hold off the Hollywood Syndicate’s highly regarded first-timer Agent Murphy by 3,25 lengths. The third placed horse was over 8 lengths away!

Astrix had run third at Turffontein on 15 December – the same afternoon that Vercingetorix son Fearless Warrior won on debut in a Maiden Juvenile Plate over 1000m at Kenilworth.

The two are Vercingetorix’ only runners so far and both have now won.
The Riverton Stud bred Astrix was a R60 000 Cape Ready To Run Sale graduate. He is out of the Victory Moon mare, Victory Dance, who did not race.
Vercingetorix was Equus Champion of 2012-2013 and was unbeaten in South Africa where he won both the Gr1 Daily News 2000 and Gr2 KZN Guineas.
Exported to Dubai, Vercingetorix won the Gr1 Jebel Hatta and Gr2 Al Rashidiya and also finished second in the Gr1 Dubai Duty Free where he accounted for the international Gr1 winners Dank, Mshawish, Hunter’s Light and The Fugue.
He stood for a 2018 fee of R30 000.
Vercingetorix has seven lots catalogued at January’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale – including a filly (Lot 21) out of a stakes winning daughter of Captain Al (the broodmare sire of Fearless Warrior) and a colt (Lot 164) out of a Winter Oaks winning half-sister to the stakes winning dam of exported Gr1 winner Lobo’s Legend.
