Turffontein Weather Plays Ball

First off at 12h00

After just under 5mm of overnight rain, the weather looks fine and it’s all systems go for Turffontein today, with an exciting nine-race programme set for this afternoon.

There is a R500 000 Pick 6 carryover with a likely pool of R3 million. The three features on the card are the Grade 2 WSB Gauteng Guineas, Grade 2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas and the Grade 3 WSB Tommy Hotspur Stakes.

The first is due off at 12h00.

Gimme A Shot from the Mike and Adam Azzie yard takes her place in the Grade 2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas and she is the best bet on the programme. She has been ultra-impressive in her last two victories.

She showed good speed over 1200m on the Vaal Classic course last time, found another kick and won with a ton in hand. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since.

She won the Grade 2 Betway Ipi Tombe Challenge over this course and distance in her penultimate run. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight has plenty of class about her and she is the horse to beat.

The Brett Crawford stable send out The Mauritian in Race 4.

He was not disgraced when third in the Listed Secretariat Stakes last time. He set the pace and stayed on at the finish. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked.

The son of Vercingetorix should have no issues with the drop to 1160m and on his Handicap debut, he is capable of returning to winning ways.
