The Dubai World Cup spectacular at Meydan this afternoon may overshadow the Turffontein treble feature racemeeting, despite the fact that a R500 000 carryover is set to boost the local exotic to R3 million plus.
Nine races are carded on the Standside course this afternoon.
While the fields size-wise are nothing to write home about, the Gr3 Protea Stakes, Gr3 Pretty Polly Stakes and the Gr2 Colorado King Stakes are very competitive and should provide good entertainment
It is an early start to the day with the first due off at 11h45 – Meydan gets underway two hours later.
River Queraress from the Paul Peter stable takes her place in the Gr3 Protea Stakes which is Race 5. She was super-impressive when winning the Listed Ruffian Stakes over 1000m last time. She raced from just off the pace, quickened up well and won with a ton in hand. It must be noted that
Magic Tycoon has come out and won since.
The daughter of Querari looks to have plenty of class about her and she should notch up her fourth straight win.
Mike and Adam Azzie saddle Visiway in the lucky last race. He finished 0.3 lengths behind Val Dorcia last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to beturned.
The 1.5kgs claiming apprentice Philasande Mxoli retains the ride and he may be hard to peg back.
