Turffontein Pick 6 Aims At R3 Million

First race is off at 12h00 on Saturday

It’s WSB Guineas Day at Turffontein on Saturday with a R500 000 Pick 6 carryover set to generate a total pool some R3 million.

The Gr2 World Sports Betting Gauteng Guineas and the Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas, both over 1600m on the Standside track, kick off the World Sports Betting SA Triple Crown and Wilgerbosdrift SA Triple Tiara respectively.

Both races have attracted strong entries with a full complement of 16 runners in the R1-million Gauteng Guineas and 15 runners in the R750 000 Gauteng Fillies Guineas.

Adam Azzie

While the Fillies Guineas looks dominated by Gimme A Shot, the colts’ race looks far more competitive. Mike and Adam Azzie-trained Gimme A Shot has run six times for three wins, two seconds and a third place, but it is her penultimate run that puts her head and shoulders above her rivals.

That was in the Gr2 Ipi Tombe Stakes for fillies and mares over 1600m. She trounced her opposition, which included some decent older fillies, by 3.50 lengths.

The only concern is that she is drawn 11, but she has JP van der Merwe up and he is riding at the top of his game right now.

Trainer Mike de Kock has a strong hand in the colts’ race with the two top-rated runners – Shoemaker and East Coast. De Kock has always rated Shoemaker highly, but in recent runs the Gimmethegreenlight colt has found no luck.

Nathan Kotzen-trained Royal Victory finished behind Shoemaker and East Coast in the Grade 2 Dingaans.

But Kotzen then fitted his charge in blinkers for his next run and it was a very different Royal Victory who then cruised to a 3.75-length victory. With S’manga Khumalo up, he could be the one they all have to beat.

For Pick 6 purposes one also needs to consider Electric Gold, Le Morne, Money Heist and Anfields Rocket.

And it’s a race on which TAB account holders who bet online just have to have a shot at winning the Trifecta. Here’s the deal – bet a Trifecta with TAB for R10 or more on the race online and TAB will refund you 10% of your stake if you lose. It’s a grand offer open and makes a TAB Trifecta on the WSB Guineas an absolute must-play bet.

The first race is off at 12h00 – the Pick 6 starts in the fourth at 13h40.
