The National Horseracing Authority confirms that an Appeal against the finding and the penalty imposed by an Inquiry Board upon Mr T Appie was heard at the offices of The National Horseracing Authority on Wednesday 19 August 2015.
The Inquiry Board found that Mr Appie, whilst riding the horse QUEEN SEVI at Turffontein Racecourse on 11 January 2015, failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure that the filly was given a full opportunity to obtain the best possible placing and imposed a penalty of riding in races for a period 20 days.
The Appeal Board was of the unanimous view that the conviction and penalty, based on the record, was unsustainable. In coming to its finding, the Appeal Board considered that Mr Appie had followed the instructions given to him by Trainer Grant Maroun, which instructions were accepted and unchallenged by the Inquiry Board.
Accordingly, the Appeal against the finding was upheld, the finding and the penalty was set aside and the Appeal fee refunded.
