Trippi leading sire of 2yo’s

Trippi, who has 22 yearlings on sale, had his fifth South African winner when Yellow Card won on Friday.

Black Minnaloushe, who has 29 yearlings on sale, is the sire of The Black Rose, an easy winner of the Listed East Cape Nursery.

Captain Al, who has 21 babies on Sale, is the sire of recent Listed Breeders Guineas winner, Ocean’s Marsh Shirtliff, Markus Jooste and Bryn Ressel own a smart daughter of Trippi called Hammie’s Hooker who won again yesterday – she has been to the track just 3 times, placed 3rd first time out and then won each of her next starts by an average of 3 lengths, easing up.

Trippi has had only 12 of his 1st crop go to the races – they have accumulated just 18 starts amongst which are 5 winners (two stakes winners) of 7 races – i.e. 50% winners/runners.

Trippi is now leading sire of 2yo’s by stakes and by number of stakes winners as well as by % winners/runners and he is joint leading sire of 2yo’s by number of races won. Amongst the sires of 2yo’s that have had 10 or more runners he is also the leader by AEPR.

It’s early days in the USA racing season. They open in January so with barely 3 months gone the top of the sire log there is held, again, by Giant’s Causeway whose progeny have earned US$1.6m – next is Tapit with $1.56 and about a dozen more whose progeny have amassed in excess of a million dollars – they make up the current top 20 by global progeny earnings –  the next group are separated by small change including Trippi whose progeny have earned close to $900 000 so far.
