Trevelen’s Winning Roll Continues

Another winner for the passionate owner

After a historic record-breaking Classic Day last Saturday at Turffontein, owner Trevelen Pillay continued on his winning ways as his Master Of My Fate filly Clairwood Rose made a 75-1 winning debut at the Vaal on Thursday.

Ridden by Wesley Marwing, Clairwood Rose capped a 1-2 for the Paul Matchett yard when she proved too strong for her more experienced stablemate Queen’s Pact to win the third, a 1000m Maiden Juvenile Plate for the fairer sex.

A Nadeson Park Stud bred daughter of Master Of My Fate (Jet Master) out of the very talented six-time winner Fairyinthewoods (Count Dubois), who raced in the famous silver and blue of the late Hassen Adams, Clairwood Rose is named in honour of the suburb where Trevelen Pillay was raised, and for his Mom, Rose.

Trevelen was at the Vaal on Thursday, together with his record-breaking partner and good friend Dayalan Chinsammy, who were just two of the players in an historic Classic Day victory for transformation in the owner ranks, that included Grade 1 victories by Fiery Pegasus (SA Fillies Classic) and Confederate (SA Classic), a Listed success for Charming Cheetah (Storm Bird Stakes), as well as a Listed third for Elegantrix (Ruffian Stakes).

Trevelen has been involved in horseracing from an early age and has been actively involved in ownership since the early 2000’s. Today he ranks amongst the top league of owners in SA.

He told the Sporting Post that his racing interests sparked when Muzi Yeni showed him a beautiful filly called Lady Of Power, who became an early memorable moment for him when winning the Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas in 2023.

His medical professional wife Kebashni, a Professor of Paediatric Endocrinology, has also become passionate about horseracing and along with their 15 year old son Aryan, who has developed an astute eye for picking horses at sale, they have turned the sports into a family centric pastime.

Trevelen is particularly proud of the achievements of a his various partners and their horses on Classic Day.

“We believe that it’s a world record achievement and it’s wonderful to race with such passionate folk. You should be talking to all the partners and not only to me,” he adds modestly.

Trevelen keeps a balance between his very controlled approach to punting and owning horses,  and says that he had a token supportive R250  each way on his former horse Mondial, who ran in the  HK$13 million Classic Cup at Sha Tin on Sunday.

He is keen to give back to racing and is set to join the ROA Board if ratified at a meeting on 13 March.

Trevelen is the driving force behind TKP Trading (Pty) Ltd, a Level 1 B-BBEE company formed in 2015. As the managing director of this privately owned entity, he has established TKP Trading as a prominent player in the South African market, specializing in supply chain and staffing solutions across diverse industries.
