In a letter to members, the Western Cape Chapter of the Racing Association (WPRRA) has a vacant seat on the Board of Trustees of The Thoroughbred Horseracing Trust.
The Trust was established in 1997 at the time of corporatization of the horse-racing industry.
The Trust holds a significant shareholding in Phumelela and is the sole shareholder of Kenilworth Racing.
The principal object of the Trust is to promote the interests of all thoroughbred horse-racing in South Africa with a view to the long-term viability of the sport. It is an ancillary object of the Trust to promote and encourage schemes and projects which broaden the base of persons who participate and who are involved in the Sport to reflect the diversity of the people of South Africa, and in particular, to promote the participation and involvement of persons from historical disadvantaged backgrounds.
The Trustees are appointed to the Trust by the RA and SASCOC. The RA can appoint five trustees, of which one must be nominated by WPRRA.
Importantly, the following requirements apply:
- Nominees must be willing to go through the process of passing probity
- Nominees must be Colour Holders
- RA Board members are precluded from being Trustees on The Trust
Whilst the appointment remains solely the responsibility of the Board of Directors of the WPRRA, we would value input from the members we represent.
Will you please send any suggestions, particularly in terms of potential candidates, to Jeanette Schuter. Her e-mail address is [email protected].
We would like to make a decision at the next meeting of the WPRRA Board on 1 October 2019.
We therefore ask that any comments, suggestions or nominations are sent by no later than Friday, 27 September.
