A quality evenly matched bunch of speedsters lines up at Turffontein this evening. Sean Tarry’s talented Blazing Al looks handily weighted and comes in here off his cracking effort behind stablemate Trip To Heaven in the Gr2 Merchants on Summer Cup Day. But the options do not end there.
The Racing. It’s A Rush Conditions Plate run over 1000m launches the Bipot in a tricky looking opening leg on a bumper nine race programme to end the Day Of Reconcilliation Public Holiday.
Teaser
Three of the field of six met behind the capable Trip Tease over Tuesday’s course and distance on 1 November in the Listed Golden Loom Handicap, where Sean Tarry’s now scratched Captain Al gelding Blazing Al came out tops when running a length second.
He certainly held form in his next two runs.
The first was a Vaal sand short head second at level weights behind De Kock’s improved Tiger Territory, who got walloped with a 5 point penalty as he bolted in at his next start on the Turffontein 1000m turf.
Problems
De Var Hyt will be piloted by Piere Strydom and was 1,25 lengths behind Blazing Al in the Golden Loom, but meets the Tarry flyer on 3,5kgs worse terms here.
It is a known that De Var Hyt has his problems.
The evergreen and lightning heeled Sharp Design has beaten some of the best of his generation but lumps a back breaking 63 kgs here and is 3kgs worse off with Blazing Al for a six length beating in the Golden Loom.
It is worth noting that he is a winner of 10 races from 22 starts and could decide to put his best foot forward at any time.
Dominic Zaki’s Victorious fared worst in the Golden Loom finishing some 14 lengths off the winner. But he has a victory over Trip To Heaven to his credit and, assuming young Jarryd Penny can claim his full allowance, he is 8, 5kgs better off with De Var Hyt (11,75 lengths ahead of him) and 8kgs better off with Sharp Design, who was 7 lengths ahead.
Good Sort
Mike Azzie’s very fast Australian bred course and distance winner, the 3yo Flame Cat is a filly who does not know how to run a bad race.
The proximity of her best efforts behind big names like Majmu and Carry On Alice indicate that she is no slouch, but this well be tough.
Respiratory noises reported at her last two starts also suggest that she cannot be followed with great confidence.
The speedy Trippi filly Ha Lucy is developing into a good sort with 3 businesslike wins from her 5 starts.
She takes on males for the first time but has just 50kgs to shoulder and is very fast. She could confound calculations if allowed to escape and use her ample toe.
