Vaal trainer Ashley Fortune celebrated a memorable family affair and her maiden Cape winner on Sun Met day when the Twice Over gelding Invidia stormed home under her stepson Aldo Domeyer to win the R5 million CTS 1200.
“There is no price tag on moments like this,” said Aldo Domeyer quite eloquently as he added how he decided not to listen to his former SA Champion jockey Dad Andrew Fortune ‘flipping the plans’ in the parade ring just prior to the race.

“I rode him the way we planned and at the 300m I felt we were in with a shout. I thought, just keep a cool head and I could hear the crowd screaming. It’s a great feeling to win this,” he added.
The non black-type feature was restricted to eligible graduates of the 2018 Cape Premier Yearling Sale held on 20 and 21 January 2018 and the 2018 CTS April Yearling Sale held on 12 and 13 April 2018 and hosted a capacity field of 20 runners.
Looking particularly well weighted and a six-time winner, the Paul Peter raider Sarah was a popular favourite. But after showing some good pace early on, she faltered and fell away disappointingly to be beaten close on 13 length.
On the flipside, Invidia (12-1) was lurking just off them and he finished with a flourish to hold off a determined challenge from Cartel Captain (17-2) by three quarters in a time of 71,24 secs.
Mike de Kock’s Vaseem (25-1) stayed on strongly for third, with Listed Sophomore winner Three Two Charlie (18-1) not disgraced in fourth.
The 50-1 Mr Cobbs also banked a cheque – a healthy R200 000 – for running fifth.

Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Invidia, who is raced by leading owner Mario Ferreira, is a son of Twice Over (Observatory) out of the five-time winning Parade Leader mare, Zili.
Originally sold for R100 000 on the CTS April Yearling Sale, the winner was purchased for R180 000 on the CTS Cape Ready To Run Sale when offered on the Soetendal draft.
Invidia took his earnings to R3 041 500 at his third win from ten starts with 5 places.
The Sun Met day Pick 6 pool exceeded expectations, reaching over R21,7 million.
