Six minutes prior to the running of Race 6 on Friday 17 June at Greyville, Deez Dyanand noted that No. 6, Russian Girl, was paying R1.40 a win, writes Ralph Fell in the Sporting Post mailbag.
This was presumably the early result of a tote all to come bet.
Deez reacted in a manner which I will say was, at best, over the top.
He waxed lyrical about the supposed ‘value’ to be had on other nags.
After a lifetime in the sport, one would expect him to know that the dividends become a reality once the horses jump.
For the record No.6 was paying about R3.60 a win and R1.80 a place at the jump.
Needless to say, the horse was unsighted.
Every on course presenter, with monotous regularity, highlights the win/place dividends between 5 and 10 minutes before the horses jump.
Obviously an instruction from ‘on high’.
Serious punters are being treated like numpties and newer ones misinformed.
The ‘mute ‘ button is now my weapon of choice.
Next step will be to end this self-flagellation, turn it up after 40+ years, and play Bingo.
