Oratorio

A daughter of the Western Cape based stallion Oratorio topped the first session of the 2014 Tattersalls December Mare Sale on Monday.

Esentepe, who sold in foal to unbeaten champion Frankel, was knocked down to US agent Justin Casse for 525,000 gns. Remarkably, it is a second time that Esentepe has topped a Tattersalls sale, with the Oratorio daughter having fetched 220,000 gns at the 2012 July sale.

A really classy racemare, Esentepe scored the biggest win of her career in the G3 Nell Gwyn Stakes of 2012, where her defeated opponents included the G1 winner Nayarra (Gran Criterium), G1 Coronation Stakes second Starscope, and classy stakes winning mares Lily’s Angel, Sunday Times and Regal Realm.

She is one of over 40 stakes winners for former European Champion Oratorio. A son of Danehill, Oratorio’s black type winners include no fewer than eight G1 horses – including champions Military Attack and Banchee.

He is standing his second season at Avontuur for a fee of R100 000.
