For a fifth year in a row, champion sire Tapit headed the sires list at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, which ended on Sunday.
Tapit – five years on the trot!
Tapit’s 31 yearlings to sell at the 2016 Keeneland September Sale grossed $19,835,000 and averaged $639,839 –the highest average recorded (for a sire with three or more lots on offer) at this sale since Danzig averaged $1, 465, 833 back in 2006.
Top price paid for a Tapit yearling at this sale was $2 000 000 splashed out to by a colt out of Ponche De Leona. This colt was purchased by Bridlewood Farm in partnership with MV Magnier and was the second top lot sold at the September Sale.
Tapit is enjoying another magnificent year in 2016 and is currently on course to record his third consecutive sires title.
His runners have already amassed more than $15 000 000 in prize money during 2016, with his 19 stakes winners having won no fewer than 29 stakes races this year –including such prestigious Gr1 races as the classic G1 Belmont Stakes, Gr1 Whitney Stakes, Gr1 Met Handicap, Gr1 Arkansas Derby and Gr1 Spinaway Stakes.
The latter race saw a pair of Tapit fillies, Pretty City Dancer and Sweet Loretta, dead-heat for first place with both fillies stamping themselves as potential Breeders’ Cup contenders.
Coup De Grace stands at Klawervlei
