The big race – the 2016 Group 1 Singapore Guineas – may have moved to Sunday but that doesn’t stop the action starting in earnest on Friday
A stand-alone Sunday meeting and while there are no features on 11 race card, a small but elite field goes round over 1400m early in the day coupled with a solid finish to the day will keep punters on their toes.
As the holiday name would suggest, it’s a day off for the workers, the battlers and the also-rans and in staying with the theme of Labour Day, there are a few races with some definite blue-collar types
A rare double-header in Singapore this Labour Day long weekend with two big meetings scheduled for Sunday and Monday in the republic
Race days don’t get much better than this with two excellent Group races and an undercard that includes a Kranji Stakes A event with reigning Horse-of-the-Year, STEPITUP
With the big races, included the must watch Lion City Cup on Sunday, this meeting is an entrée to the main dish at best but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some good bets to be had
While a the better races on the card include a cracking Open Poly Sprint and an intriguing BM89 event over 1800m, a lowly Class 5 mile (race 6) may offer one of the better bets on the night.
It’s tough enough to do the form at the best of times but a rare race where no horse has been to the track previously makes the Kranji Nursery Stakes (race 5) a nightmare for pundits
While there are some very ordinary races early on today’s card, the meeting finishes with some cracking races including a Class 3 mile (race 7) that could see a Derby contender or two show their best
With two features on a very good eleven race card, this meeting was always going to be a beauty
